Should we consider using an off site server?

My organisation needs to upgrade its server which runs Windows SBS 2003 and supports an office network (several PCs and printers, router, etc) in the usual way. We also use Exchange Server. The new machine will also host new database next year, probably using Raiser's Edge. We might want to even use it for our own website in the future, but this is uncertain. We have little technical expertise here, we rely on some home grown knowledge, anything else we have to pay for. Can you tell me more what could be done by renting space on an offisite server and what sort of costs are involved? Once the connection is established would that arrangment just feel, to users, the same as if the machine were here? In general terms, what are the merits of using such an arrangement as opposed to buying our own kit? Finally, another option seems to be to lease equipment, could that make sense in this scenario?
