How do I find out how old a PC is?

How do I found out how old a PC is? Is the year of manufacture stored somewhere on the PC? Or failing that can I found out what year the operating system was installed? I'm carrying out an inventory of our PCs and I want to know how old each of them is. They have XP, XP x64 and 2000 operating systems.
